Want to know how to get from Galle to Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka? It’s not difficult and there are 2 cheap and easy options.
The Bus From Galle To Hikkaduwa
It’s not far to Hikkaduwa from Galle, and just involves jumping on a bus on the main road to Colombo (the A2). You want the side closest to the beach (left). I assume you can also pick up buses from the bus station in Galle.
Buses are really regular. Just ask the driver if they are stopping at Hikkaduwa.
The main buses are numbers 02 and 388. We just missed one but flagged down 2 or 3 others until we found another one heading there.
We caught the bus slightly out of town.
Cost Of The Bus
It cost us LKR 45 ($0.25 USD) each and took about 40 minutes. If you wait until after rush hour (about 10am) the bus will be fairly empty and you won’t have issues with finding a seat or luggage space at the front.
If you are worried about not knowing where to get off and you don’t have a local sim for your phone (they are worth getting as they are cheap as chips) download the app maps.me from your app store to access offline maps.
The Train From Galle To Hikkaduwa
You can also get the train from Galle to Hikkaduwa. The train costs LKR 40 (£0.22 USD) and also goes to most significant places along the southern coastline of Sri Lanka. Check out the Sri Lankan train timetables.
